1) The Browns trade up to #2 and select Oregon QB Marcus Mariota: With all the rumors this one just won't go away. Experts have them putting a package together involving 12 and 19. Do i think it will happen....no. Could it happen absolutely. It could happen if the Browns feel that Mariota is their franchise guy virtually admitting they messed up on "Johnny Football". The Browns wouldn't hesitate if it only costs them 12 and 19. I think Tennessee would want the Browns to surrender i believe pick 43 and next year's #1 as well. Verdict:4 picks for 1 guy..ummm...no. Not unless he's the next Peyton Manning.
2) The Browns trade with San Diego for Phillip Rivers: The Chargers are in the middle of the Browns two picks at 17. The Browns could trade 12 and 19 to the Chargers for their pick and Phillip Rivers. Why this might work: The only thing this costs the Browns is 1 pick and the Chargers therefore would gain a pick. The Chargers realize Phillip Rivers has a contract that is running out and might find this to be a great time to deal and get value out of Rivers. The Browns would get a better suited Veteran QB that would be able to better teach Johnny Football. Why it might not work: Phillip Rivers stomps his foot.
3) The Browns stay put: There could be some choices for the Browns if they stay put. Below are some key players that would help the Browns though some might feel they arent the sexy pick:
DT Malcom Brown from Texas: not a sexy pick but run stopper, pass rusher the Browns could use. A safe, secure pick.
NT Danny Shelton from Washington: another safe pick that could play a run stuffing role.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham from Missouri: Speed...only if he can stay out of trouble.
WR Breshad Perriman from Central Florida: you really can't ignore his 40 time.
TE Maxx Williams from Minnesota : a pass catching tight end that could line up wide and produce mismatches in certain passing situations.
OLB Dante Fowler Jr. from Florida: can never have enough linebackers. Might be able to put on a few pounds and play the role of a defensive end in certain situations.
QB Rakeem Cato from Marshall: Here is a pick the Browns can take towards the end of the draft. This is a low risk, high reward pick. I really liked what I saw from him anytime i caught his games in the last 4 years. A QB i believe has the tools to make all the throws of the NFL.
Obviously this is just a sample of who the Browns can draft. I know there are other reciviers and such the Browns are interested in heading into the draft. So until next time enjoy this preview.
